As a child, Mallory (Mouse) lived in a foster home that taught her that silence brought safety. If silence didn't work, her foster brother Rider stepped in to protect her. After Rider and Mallory are pulled from the home, they are separated, and Mallory ends up with loving adoptive parents who spend years homeschooling her and getting her the counseling she needs to get healthy. To challenge herself, Mallory decides to attend public school for her senior year; she wants to prove that she can speak up for herself. On the first day, she runs into Rider, who she hasn't seen since that tragic day. Mallory is so excited to be reunited with her childhood hero, and immediately, their connection returns. However, Rider is not be the same boy she knew. He has grown up in a series of foster homes that have changed him, and Mallory is desperately trying not to be the quiet girl he remembers. With all of their scars and changes, these two have an uphill battle in their search for a love that will last forever. Armentrout's latest romance is my favorite of 2016. You will fall in love with Mouse and Rider as they strive to be better and protect the one they love. Highly recommended.

For the past few years, you have voted for your favorite teen romance authors, and the results are in. Simone Elkeles is the reigning queen with 37 votes, but Sarah Dessen was in second place with 32. Colleen Hoover and Katie McGarry were a close 3rd and 4th. Thanks to all who voted! Hope this helps other romance fans to find more authors to enjoy. With Valentine's Day arriving soon, I was inspired to compile your favorite teen romance novels. Please fill out my latest survey, so I can compile the list of the Top Ten Teen Romance Novels. Go to Fall in Love - Romance Reads page to vote for your favorites. Be prepared to be ruined! Ella Harper is willing to whatever it takes to survive, even if that means that she must take a less-than-savory job to stay independent after her mother dies. When Callum Royal appears and informs her that he is her guardian, Ella suddenly finds herself in a mansion surrounded by five gorgeous brothers. But this story is no fairy-tale. The boys despise Ella's presence in their home. Reed Royal, the unspoken leader of the bunch, will stop at nothing to send Ella back to her former world. He might be considered a prince in his school, but he definitely is not the type to save the girl. However, Ella Harper is no princess in need of saving. She is willing to fight dirty to stand up for herself and protect those she loves. Despite their initial battles, Ella and the boys, especially Reed, start to care for each other. However, the Royal kingdom is filled with twisted secrets that may destroy them all. Clear your schedule when you start this series. The cliff-hanger endings and addictive plots will turn you into a Royal addict. You won't be able to stop reading until you finish book three. (I am excited to tell you that the author said Easton will have one or more books starting next fall!) I can't completely explain why I loved this series so much. The actions and language of the characters are often shocking, but the characters themselves are simply by-products of terrible home lives. Ella's mom was a stripper who traveled the country with Ella following her bad boyfriends. The Royal boys may have money, but their mother's tragic death and their father's new girlfriend poison all their lives. Just as the boys magically worm their way into Ella's heart, these characters will do the same to you. This is a perfect winter read to warm you up! This is the best romance I have read in ages! Highly recommended!
Rebel in the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton Living a desolate, desert town, life is difficult in for Amani Al'Hiza. Being poor, orphaned, and female makes her life even worse. Her disgusing uncle is threatening to force her to become one of his wives, and she would rather die than live a life as his slave. With a combination of her amazing sharpshooting skills, a little magic, and the help of a handsomer newcomer named Jin, Amani escapes town only to find her days of running are not over. She had always dreamed that she could escape and find peace in the city, but now she finds herself forced to decide if she is willing to fight for her ideals and accept a destiny she never imagined. This action-packed fantasy will keep readers on the edge of their seats as you get pulled into Amani's whirlwnd adventures. Amani is a tough, though sometimes niave, heroine, but you will admire her as fights to grab her future before it slips away in the sand. I can see why this book won GoodReads 2016 Choice Award for Debut Goodreads Author. Upon review of the books I read in 2016, I was underwhelmed by the choices available. There were some amazing additions to series, ( I think A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas was even better than the first book in the series, A Court of Thorn and Roses, and A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir was just as good as An Ember in the Ashes.) However, the original titles were not as inspiring. I found that half of my favorites from 2016 were books that I read last year that I missed in 2015. I am sure there are some gems published this fall that I also have missed. However, right now, my favorites of 2016 are partly books from 2016 and partly books from 2015. I have never done this before, but I wanted to be true to my favorites. You can go to Best Books of 2016 to read my reviews, but here are the covers of my favorites. Six of Crows & Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo This is the story of one of the greatest heists of all time. Kaz Brekker, a young criminal mastermind, knows anything can happen for the right price. When he is challenged to get into an impenetreble fortress for an outrageous amount of money, Kaz knows the job will be dangerous and difficult. However, with the right team, he knows he can accoomplish the impossible. His team is made up of an unlikely group of misfits: a deadly spy, an unlikely sharpshooter, an angry convict, a powerful magician, and an inexperienced runaway. If they can figure out how to work together, their mission will not only make them rich beyond their wildest dream, but also, it will save their world. If not, their futures and future of humanity is bleak. Although I did not love Badrugo's first series, I fell in love with this one because I loved the characters she created in this world. Each of them are struggling to overcome their tragic history, and ironically, it is only through their criminal work that each of them finds redemption and hope. Of course, my favorites are the mercilessly cunning Kaz and the deadly spy Inej. The sequel, Crooked Kingdom, mastefully completes the tale. A brilliantly woven story, I highly recommend this series. |
