As a child, Mallory (Mouse) lived in a foster home that taught her that silence brought safety. If silence didn't work, her foster brother Rider stepped in to protect her. After Rider and Mallory are pulled from the home, they are separated, and Mallory ends up with loving adoptive parents who spend years homeschooling her and getting her the counseling she needs to get healthy. To challenge herself, Mallory decides to attend public school for her senior year; she wants to prove that she can speak up for herself. On the first day, she runs into Rider, who she hasn't seen since that tragic day. Mallory is so excited to be reunited with her childhood hero, and immediately, their connection returns. However, Rider is not be the same boy she knew. He has grown up in a series of foster homes that have changed him, and Mallory is desperately trying not to be the quiet girl he remembers. With all of their scars and changes, these two have an uphill battle in their search for a love that will last forever. Armentrout's latest romance is my favorite of 2016. You will fall in love with Mouse and Rider as they strive to be better and protect the one they love. Highly recommended.
